NEW YORK – Mayor Michael Bloomberg will deliver his State of the City address this afternoon and the future of a historic Bronx armory is on the agenda.
The mayor is set to announce a plan to convert the Kingsbridge Armory into a commercial and entertainment hub which would create thousands of jobs.
A deal to redevelop the armory into a retail center in 2006 fell apart amid calls by some elected officials to require that workers at the center be paid what they called a living wage.
Bloomberg has said he doesn’t support a proposal currently being considered by the City Council that would require all employees at city-subsidized developments to be paid $10 per hour or more.
The landmark structure has been vacant since the mid 1990s.
Bloomberg will deliver his State of the City address at Morris High School in the Bronx.
