He’s always one who makes enemies easier than friends!
This weekend, Kanye West put his fans in a foul mood at Big Day Out when he arrived 45 minutes late to his set and kept them all waiting in the rain. Once he finally got there, he put on a show spectacular enough to appease them, but the rockers of the newly reunited Soundgarden were far less forgiving.
The group ended up having to play their set on a neighboring stage to Kanye, who was going through soundcheck at the time. His music was blasted so loud that it overpowered that of Soundgarden’s and the fans were more than just displeased. Frontman Chris Cornell, who clearly wasn’t impressed with Ye’s music, shouted out to the crowd:
“Sounds like there’s children playing music there, retarded children, retarded as in held back. There’s no other word for it.”
Can’t say we love that connotation all that much. No doubt he’s going to get into a lot of trouble for that remark — and rightly so.
But not to get too fixated, Kanye has to learn he is not the end-all, be-all of music. A little respect for his fans and fellow performers wouldn’t kill him.
