Rihanna is explaining her recent collaborations with Chris Brown, the onetime boyfriend who was convicted of beating her up the night before the 2009 Grammy Awards.
“The hottest R&B artist out right now is Chris Brown,” she said Thursday on Ryan Seacrest’s morning radio show, referring to her tune “Birthday Cake.” “So I wanted him on the track.”
Then they cut a deal for the benefit of their fans, she said.
“He was like, ‘Why don’t you do the remix to my track?’ and it was a trade-off,” Rihanna said. “We did two records. One for my fans. One for his fans, and that way our fans can come together.
“There shouldn’t be a divide. You know? It’s music, and it’s innocent.”
