The Billboard Music Awards, hosted by “Modern Family” co-stars Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell, aired live on ABC from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Adele’s bounty on the night also included Top Female Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Pop Album, for “21,” and Top Alternative Song, for “Rolling in the Deep.” See a list here.
Winners of six awards, LMFAO kicked off the night by performing their trifecta of hits (“Party Rock Anthem” / “Sorry for the Party Rocking” / “I’m Sexy and I Know It”) in a neatly packaged medley complete. The duo’s SkyBlu (with a new haircut) and Red Foo later took the stage to accept awards for Hot 100 Song of the Year (“Party Rock Anthem”) and for Top Duo/Group, beating out Maroon 5 and Lady Antebellum.
“This is amazing. This is a dream,” Red Foo said when accepting for Hot 100 Song. SkyBlu added a big up to his uncle (Red Foo) for showing him the ropes.
Coldplay and Lil Wayne had big nights as well, both earning four BBMAs, while Casting Crowns, Jason Aldean and Lady Gaga each received two awards. Lady Antebellum, Shakira, Wiz Khalifa, Beyonce, Foster the People and Nicki Minaj are among the artists who each won one award. Lil Wayne, whose “Tha Carter IV” earned him his third Billboard 200 No. 1, thanked fans when accepting Top Male Artist honors.
