The rotten tooth of deceased Beatle John Lennon was put up for auction and it sold over $31,200 dollars!!
Canadian dentist Michael Zuk purchased the late Beatles legend’s molar by telephone bid at the Omega Auction House in Stockport, Greater Manchester, on Saturday. The 49-year-old dental surgeon spilled the beans after finalizing the deal.
“Most people would say I was crazy, but I think it’s fantastic.”
The gruesome tooth sold for almost twice its asking price and it came with an affidavit signed by John’s former housekeeper Dot Jarlett, whom he gave the molar to when she worked for him at his Kenwood mansion in Surrey in the 1960s.
Dot Jarlett took care of the musician’s domestic affairs during the 1960s, and when his tooth popped out after a dentist visit, he told her she could either dispose of it or give it to her daughter, who was a huge fan. Dot chose the later, and the molar had remained a family treasure ever since.
Her son Barry Jarlett explained:
“John was in the kitchen and he had this tooth which he had wrapped in a piece of paper. He said, ‘Dot will you dispose of this,’ and then he said, ‘Or, as your daughter’s a Beatles fan, you can give to her as a souvenir. It is something that we felt was very personal and my mum actually gave it to my sister who has kept it safe.”
Jarlett has previously sold other items related to the late singer, including a jacket he wore on the cover of the Beatles’ 1965 Rubber Soul album.
Earlier this year, a lock of Justin Bieber’s hair sold for $40,000, with all the proceeds going to charity, and a jar of Angelina Jolie’s breath once sold for $530, so it’s no shocker that Lennon’s molar went for so much!
Would you have bought Lennon’s tooth?
