Steve Nash, a Los Angeles Lakers player, allegedly doesn’t want to pay his estranged wife child support. His reasons are that he believes his ex-wife Alejandra Amarilla already took enough of his money in the divorce proceedings and that if she were to get more money she might spoil their three kids rotten.
An Arizona judge sided with Nash and ruled that Amarilla was not entitled to child support. Amarilla is appealing the decision. I understand that divorces can be messy and if there is money involved, well, the mess just gets messier.
Let’s rewind a bit. Nash and Amarilla married in 2005. In 2010, one day after the birth of their son, Nash announced that they were getting a divorce. Dude, terrible timing for the announcement. Way to overshadow your child’s birth. Boo!
Moving on, I am sure that neither Nash or Amarilla are suffering for money. As far as the kids go, don’t do things that will come back to haunt you later. Come on! Fight her on the divorce settlement or alimony or whatever, but don’t fight her on the kid front.
The reasoning that if she got child support, she might spoil the kids rotten is ridiculous because she might not. If she is prone to spoiling her children rotten she can certainly afford to do it now anyway.
Oh and another thing, Amarilla wants to move back to L.A. where Nash happens to play with the Lakers, but he doesn’t want her to. Weird, because he supposedly originally moved to L.A. so he could be closer to his kids, but now he doesn’t want to be closer to them? Could it be that if they moved to California he might actually be forced to pay child support? Me smells something fishy.
Obviously, I’m just an outsider looking in and I realize that no one in this situation is in danger of poverty, it’s just the principle of the thing. Be bitter with your ex, go ahead and bitch and moan about the money she got, but don’t begrudge your kids anything. Be better than that. And if you don’t want them to be spoiled rotten, then be an active participant in their lives and set an example.
