To celebrate the birth of his daughter Blue Ivy, rapper Jay Z has released a new rap on his official website Life & Times. The song, titled ‘Glory’, features numerous references to his baby-girl, as well as wife Beyonce.
The music mogul raps, “The most amazing feeling I feel, Words can’t describe what a feeling, for real, Baby I’ll paint the sky blue, My greatest creation was you”. The song bobs along at a gentle pace and fans will already have noticed that Blue Ivy herself makes an appearance on the song, despite being just a couple of days old. The baby-girl is heard crying in the final moments of ‘Glory’, with Jay Z closing out the tune by singing, “You’re the child of my destiny, you’re the child of the child from Destiny’s Child, that’s a hell of a recipe, Glory, Glory”. Beyonce gave birth to her first child late on Saturday evening (January 7, 2012) in New York City, with early reports erroneously confirming the baby’s name as Ivy Blue Carter. The term became a trending topic on Twitter, before the error was corrected with news that the girl’s name was actually Blue Ivy.
Though question marks have been raised as to the meaning of Blue Ivy’s name – Jay Z obviously has a penchant for the colour blue in general. His seminal 2001 album ‘The Blueprint’ was followed by two further ‘Blueprint’ records and he sang “My favorite hue is Jay Z Blue” on Young Jeezy’s Go Crazy in 2005. He also released the single ‘Blue Magic’ from the 2007 album American Gangster.
