Teen girls threaten to murder each other over prom dresses via @ajelkallejero

Searching for a dress during prom season has always been stressful. But these days, the quest to find the perfect gown has gotten so competitive that some teen girls are actually taking to social media to threaten anyone who copies their particular style.

Seriously? I can’t believe this actually a real trend now.

Parents in New York are apparently horrified after discovering that their daughters are members of Facebook groups with titles like “B*tch Don’t Steal My Dress” and “Steal My Prom Dress and I’ll Knock You The F*ck Out.” The teens have been using the pages to post pictures of their gowns–sometimes while they’re still in the dressing room–ask for opinions, and most often, warn others not to buy the same dress or a style that’s too similar. Jeez, since when did prom dress shopping become as scary competitive and high-intensity as some extreme sports?

Of course, the girls themselves say they’re just kidding when they threaten to “murder” someone over a prom dress. “I don’t see seriously mean comments, just compliments and likes,” said one senior told the New York Post. Right, they say that now. But they’re not even at the actual prom yet! How much do you want to bet at least one of these girls actually does end up starting a fight all because someone else has the same dress?

It’s kind of sad to see how much the attitude has changed with this entire generation that was basically raised by social media. When I went to my prom, the only person whose opinion I asked for was my mom’s. Showing up and surprising everyone with the dress you picked out was part of the fun! Besides, no one even remembers what you wore as soon as the night is over anyway.

Clearly, things have changed–and not for the better. Young girls shouldn’t be threatening each other with murder for anything, let alone over something as silly as a prom dress.
