It’s already been six days since Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week hit Lincoln Center for the Spring 2014 season.
Models, celebrities and stylists have taken the city by storm since last Wednesday — including local and international Latino designers.
New York-based Pamela Gonzales was one of the first Latinas to debut her spring/summer collection at her boutique in SoHo.
With exaggerated false eye lashes and plum lipstick, the models showcased a mixture of sexy evening wear — including some lingerie — and ready-to-wear pieces such as classic pencil skirts and fitted, sequin dresses.
Mexican-born Paola Hernandez held a co-ed presentation titled Singularity. It was an edgy combination of jumpsuits and separates with tons of trousers, and sleeveless shirts — including a sheer crop-top which a model wore braless. It was a vibrant collection with loads of orange and red accents, and some navy.
Lace and eyelet fabrics dominated the Candela viewing. Designer Gabriela Perezutti says her collection had a nautical theme — and there was no doubting it.
Rope made for sailing was used as a prop for the presentation, and natural rope was used for the straps of dresses.
From gowns to a casual cropped sweatshirt and metallic pointy-toe flats, there was something for everyone.
Up-and-coming Dominican designer Cenia Paredes of Cenia NY had models strut her colorful frocks and gowns down the runway during Latinista Fashion Week in late August.
Mexican-American Cesar Galindo showed off his Czar by Cesar Galindo at both Latinista and Lincoln Center. He had garments that fell right above the knee and exquisite multi-color maxi-dresses.
And it was a tribal fest during fashion week veteran Custo Barcelona’s runway show at The Stage inside Lincoln Center.
There was a fusion of metallics, sheer, and tons of colors and prints. Women sported chic separates from jackets, tops and even swimwear with (dare we say) trendsetting visors. Meanwhile, the guys donned oversized jackets and more casual wear.
The designer collaborated with Jeffrey Campbell on the footwear.
Desigual — also from Spain — brought an energetic show titled La Vida es Chula (Life is Cool).
It was a mixture of florals, tie-dye and stripes to “capture the essence of the good life.” The designers were inspired by the islands in the Mediterranean.
Other prevalent designers, including Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Narciso Rodriguez, Angel Sanchez, Rafael Cennamo, Rolando Santana, Carmen Marco Valvo, Robert Rodriguez and Raul Peñaranda also presented their collections.
Colombian Edwing D’Angelo will showcase his designs on Thursday, Sept. 12 — the last day of the Spring 2014 season — at Studio 450 in Manhattan.
